// Iceland to keep all stores closed on Boxing Day as a thank you to staff
// Boxing Day has always been one of the busiest times of the year for retail employees
Iceland boss Richard Walker has just revealed that Iceland and Food Warehouse stores will be closed on Boxing Day.
Boxing Day has always been one of the busiest times of the year for retail employees across the UK as shoppers flock to stores to take advantage of seasonal sales.
The frozen food retailer‘s managing director said stores will close to give colleagues a “well-earned rest with their friends & families”.

We’ll be closing all our Iceland and Food Warehouse stores on Boxing Day, to give our colleagues a well-earned rest with their friends & families.

Morrisons, Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s and Aldi were among the retailers to have closed their stores on Boxing Day last year.
It was Morrisons’ first time to have kept stores closed on December 26 in living memory.
Iceland’s Walker recently called on the Conservative Party to increase Universal Credit to £20 a week.
Walker described new Prime Minister’s Liz Truss’ priorities as “odd” as he spoke at the Conservative Party Conference.
He added that he was puzzled by tax cuts for the wealthy coupled with a lack of support for those on low incomes.
He added that the government do understand – “but not fully” – the scale of the struggles people on low incomes are facing.
“We really do have to look after the most vulnerable,” he said.
