Marks and Spencer is partnering with bp pulse to bring high-speed electric vehicle charging points to 70 of its stores across the UK.
The department store retailer is planning to install up to 900 charge points at select locations in the next two years.
The move is part of Marks’ plans to “build a store estate fit for the future”.
EV charging points are already available at the M&S Maidstone Eclipse Park in Kent and Southgate store in north London after a successful pilot in 2020.

M&S director of operations Sacha Berendji said: “At M&S we’re reshaping the business for sustainable future growth in every sense.
“From our award-winning Shwopping initiative to our Fill Your Own refill concept, EV charging is the latest feature to ensure we have a store estate fit for the future, to help our customers live lower carbon lives.
“We know that services like EV charging are in demand from our customers, so we’re delighted to be offering this service and give more reasons for customers to shop with us.”
Once the rollout has been completed, the retailer said it would explore introducing points at further sites. M&S has more than 960 stores in total.
The next step in M&S’ sustainability efforts comes after it said was trialling paper bags in 10 of its stores with plans to offer a plastic-free alternative to shoppers.
The paper carrier bags, which can hold up to 15kg, have been developed to maintain their strength and durability.
