River Island former marketing director Jill Gate has joined George at Asda as senior director of brand marketing, Drapers has reported.
Gate exited River Island back in November to “pursue other opportunities” after joining the fashion retailer in December 2020 from Photobox, where she was interim brand director from April 2020.
Prior to that she worked in senior marketing roles at fellow high street retailers Oasis and Warehouse.
Asda interim chief customer officer Sam Dickson said: “I am delighted to announce that Jill Gate will be joining our business as senior director of brand marketing for George and GM.
“Jill joins us from River Island and has extensive experience in both brand and marketing. Jill will take on responsibility for brand and marketing across George and GM.”

A week prior to Gate’s departure, River Island chief executive Will Kernan announced his resignation to pursue a number of “personal and commercial” projects.
Last month he was replaced by Richard Bradbury who returned to the business after 12 years as executive chair with full responsibilities for leadership of the business.
Bradbury was the first person outside of the founding Lewis family to run River Island and retired from his role as chief executive in 2010 after 20 years working in the company.
Turnover at River Island increased 23.2% year on year to £740m in the 52 weeks to 25 December 2021 in the retailer’s most recent financial results. Operating profit rose to £73.5m during the same period, from a loss of £36.2m the previous year.
