Amazon has asked staff to be in the office at least three days a week from May.
CEO Andy Jassy said its leadership team believe it is easier to “learn, model, practice, and strengthen its culture” when in the office as well as “collaborate and invent”.
The Amazon leadership team made the decision this week and wrote to all employees to tell them: “We should go back to being in the office together the majority of the time (at least three days per week.”

Jassy said it had observed various models of working and had also found that learning from one another is easier in-person and teams also tend to be better connected.
The online giant last updated about working practices in the wake of the pandemic in the second half of 2021, when it said that director-level leaders would decide where their teams would work and would “experiment for the next chunk of time”.
Jassy did concede that certain roles such as sales and customer support would not need to come to the office three days a week but said these exceptions would be in “a small minority”.
He also pointed out that its decision would boost thousands of businesses located around its offices.
Amazon is one of many tech giants that is cutting staff. It was revealed last month that it would cut over 18,000 jobs from its workforce amid economic uncertainty.
