Pret A Manger hikes price of coffee subscription

// Pret a Manger has expanded its coffee subscription to include discounts on all food, drinks and snacks
// The high-street chain has also hiked the price by 20% to £30 a month

Pret A Manger has raised the price of its monthly coffee subscription service by 20% to £30 and rebranded to ‘Club Pret’.

From this month new subscribers will also be able to get 10% off all food, drinks and snacks sold in stores, with the fee half price in the first month.

The high-street chain, which trades from 439 UK shops, first launched its coffee subscription service in September 2020,  in a bid to stay afloat during the pandemic which hammered sales.

It initially charged £20 a month, increasing it to £25 in February last year.

Subscribers will still be able to get up to five drinks a day, with additional drinks receiving a 10% discount – including its full range of coffees, teas, hot chocolates and new iced drinks.

The popular service is now used 1.25 million times per year and has been rolled out to customers in the US and France.

Pret a Manger chief executive Pano Christou said: “Over the past year, we’ve thought long and hard about the best way to support the people who matter most to Pret – our team members who do such an outstanding job, day in and day out, as well as our customers.

“That’s why we’ve increased pay three times in the past 12 months, and reinvested in benefits to support our people through the cost-of-living crisis.

“It’s now time that we give back to our most loyal customers, expanding the subscription and making our freshly made food, snacks and organic coffee more accessible to the people who have been crucial to Pret’s success. That’s what Club Pret is all about.”
