Shein accuses Temu of copying thousands of product images

Shein has filed a lawsuit against Temu in London’s High Court accusing its rival of copying thousands of images from its website.

The Chinese ecommerce giant claims it has “identified thousands of instances” where Temu sellers had taken photos from its website to market and sell their products.

Shein alleges its rival has been “competing unfairly” by passing off its products as those sold on its site, according to court papers filed at the High Court in August and seen by The Telegraph.

The ecommerce giant has sought an injunction against Temu sellers copying its images and demanded all the violating listings be taken down in addition to £100,000 in damages.

The lawsuit is the latest of the bitter worldwide legal battle between Shein and Temu. In July, Temu filed a US lawsuit against its rival accusing it of bullying suppliers into not working with the online marketplace.

Last December, Shein accused Temu of misleading consumers by running “imposter” Twitter accounts that were “deliberately imitating and pretending to be the Shein brand”.

The ecommerce giant is also embroiled in its own legal battle after being accused by H&M of copying the designs of its swimwear and jumpers.

Three independent designers have also lodged suits against the ecommerce giant in the US, who have claimed Shein sold “exact copies” of their designs.
