Poundland begins mass overhaul of general merchandise

Poundland has begun a mass overhaul of its general merchandise ranges that will see 2,000 new lines introduced across all its UK and Ireland stores.

The change means that the discount retailer has access to the same products available in Pepco’s 4,800-plus store estate across Europe.

Poundland said the move will help it deliver on its promise of amazing value to customers and is the single biggest change to its offer in its 30-plus history.

From today, shoppers will start to see new lines across kitchenware, toys, technology, as well as bathroom and home décor.

Almost 1,000 of the new items are now available in Poundland’s 850-plus stores across the UK and Ireland, with the rest of the changeover taking place over the coming weeks.

The new lines will also be available on the retailer’s website with 170 best-selling items available online from this week, rising to 450 in the weeks ahead.

The discount retailer said it will hold a home event in all of its stores over the next three weeks to celebrate its range revolution.

Poundland commercial director Tim Bettley said: “It’s hard to underestimate the importance of this move for our customers – not least because of the incredible value these ranges also offer.

“Completing the transition of both clothing and home ranges to revamped ranges powered by our parent company Pepco, will not only give our stores a fresh new look, but deliver the amazing value that’s at the heart of our customer promise.

“A change on this scale is transformational for Poundland and we’re excited to see the customer reaction to these ranges.”

Last week, the discount retailer revealed it was set to open a 10,000 sq ft flagship store in Bedfordshire, dubbed “Motherland” due to its extensive baby and kidswear collection.

The new branch will house the retailer’s widest range of clothing, including baby and kidswear, as it aims to become “one of the best desinations for family fashion”.
