Co-op partners with Uber Direct to launch quick commerce trial

Co-op has joined forces with Uber Direct, the white-label delivery solution of the tech business, to launch a quick commerce partnership trial.

The tie-up will allow Co-op shoppers and members to order their groceries from the retailer’s website via its app through the Uber Eats delivery network.

The partnership trial will initially be available from 50 of the supermarket’s stores, with aims to offer shoppers access to its online shop from roughly 1,000 sites by the end of this year.

Co-op said its goal was to increase its share of the quick commerce market to over 30%, placing it alongside its tie-ups with Uber Eats.

The grocer’s ecommerce director Chris Conway said: “We have ambitious goals for the continued growth of our ecommerce business, and know that our member-owners and customers value the ease and convenience of quick and convenient online home delivery.

“Innovation and effective partnerships are a fundamental part of our approach as we grow the reach of both our own online shop, and our work with strategic partners, offering our member-owners and customers in more communities an extensive range of groceries on demand from Co-op’s stores locally.”

In February, Co-op became the first UK supermarket to offer member pricing to consumers using the Uber Eats app.

The convenience chain’s exclusive pricing applies to 250 of its products listed on the delivery app, which shoppers can access by inputting their membership number at check out.
