Depop scraps selling fees to boost circularity

Depop is scrapping selling fees for UK users in efforts to make its fashion more circular.

Sellers on the secondhand clothes app will receive more money back from each of their sales this month when the business ditches its 10% selling charge for new posted listings.

The move comes under a broader update to its fee structure, according to retailer, including the launch of a marketplace fee of up to 5% for UK buyers, commencing from 15 April.

Depop said the fee would support “continued investment across the Depop marketplace” including Depop buyer protection, customer support platform improvements and growing the platform’s community.

The company’s CEO Kruti Patel Goyal said: “For years, the Depop community has been championing preloved and vintage fashion and pioneering change in the fashion industry.

“With more and more people now looking at resale as an alternative to retail, we want to amplify the impact of our growing community by continually finding ways to make it easier to participate in the circular economy.”

He added: “This change will give sellers more cash in their pocket from each sale, empowering our existing community – as well as those new to resale – to list more, sell more and earn more, while contributing to a more circular fashion system.”

In November, Depop teamed up with retail space rental agency Sook to launch pre-loved pop-ups across UK.

The pop-ups appeared in locations including Oxford Street, the Birmingham Bullring, Liverpool One Edinburgh’s St. James Quarter.
