Retail billionaire Mike Ashley has promoted one of his daughter as a director of his rapidly expanding retail empire.

Matilda Ashley is now a director of Mash Holdings, which controls his stake in Frasers Group and other companies, The Times reported.

She has resigned as a director of her own beauty business, Double Take, which Frasers bought for £1 last year without informing shareholders.

The cosmetics company, which owns SportFX and is stocked in Sports Direct, was funded through the pandemic with cash and loans from Mash Holdings.

Her appointment adds to the growing number of Ashley’s family members involved in Frasers Group.

The Sports Direct owner appointed Michael Murray, married to Ashley’s oldest daughter Anna, as chief executive two years ago.

And Matilda’s boyfriend David Al-Mudallal is the chief operating officer at the group as of April and also a board member.

In 2016, Frasers Group was criticised by its own shareholders after it emerged that it was paying a company owned by Ashley’s brother, John Ashley, to deliver online orders outside the UK, which had not been disclosed in its annual report.
