M&S has promoted social media lead Charlotte Tonry to head of social media at the business.

Tonry joined the high street retailer in April 2017 from former Marie Claire publisher Time Inc as assistant social media manager.

During her role, she worked on large scale campaigns across its clothing and home division, as well as led its paid influencer strategy.

Tonry was later appointed as social media manager for clothing and home in 2021 and then promoted to social media lead in 2022.

Her promotion comes as M&S reported “another strong Christmas” after sales rose 5.6% to £4bn in the 13 weeks to 28 December.

The retailer said its focus across food, clothing and beauty helped it to deliver its “busiest ever peak”, with food revenue up 8.7% to £2.58bn.
