Co-op has become the first UK grocer to partner with Deliveroo’s new white label Express service as the convenience retailer expands its rapid delivery offering.

The move will see Deliveroo handle back-end logistics and fulfilment for orders made through the convenience chain’s own online shop, with deliveries promised in as little as 60 minutes. The rollout will apply to hundreds of stores across the UK.

Deliveroo Express, which launched in April, enables retailers to use the delivery giant’s tech infrastructure and rider network to power their own websites or apps.

The latest development builds on a long-standing partnership between the two businesses, which began in 2018 when Co-op became Deliveroo’s first major grocery partner. Today, shoppers can order from nearly 1,400 Co-op stores via the platform.

Deliveroo vice president of new verticals Suzy McClintock said: “We are delighted to announce our new partnership with Co-op to expand our Deliveroo Express service.

“It’s a new way of working with a grocer and means that Deliveroo handles the entire grocery delivery experience – from the picking and packing to the delivery – enabling us to offer rapid delivery from even more local stores.

“We’re proud to be extending our partnership with Co-op, one of our largest on-demand grocery partners, as we continue to grow our grocery offering.”

Co-op quick commerce director Chris Conway added: “Growing our offer to enable quick and convenient online access to our products from our local stores is a core part of our approach. This new partnership will provide greater flexibility and choice to meet consumer needs for grocery essentials and treats on-demand, on their chosen app.

“As a convenience retailer, we are committed to exploring new ways to expand and grow our online offer to ensure we provide what our members and customers want and need, however and wherever they choose to shop with us.”

Co-op is targeting a 30% share of the UK’s rapid grocery delivery market, with 86% of the population now able to access its groceries online via its own shop or strategic partners.

Deliveroo said its grocery business made up 16% of gross transaction value in 2024 and posted double-digit growth, driven by improved selection and greater awareness.
