Depop has appointed Peter Semple as its permanent chief executive, effective August 1.
Semple has served as interim CEO at the online fashion marketplace since May 2025, having been with the platform for six years.
Before stepping into the top role, Semple held a number of senior positions at the London-based firm, including chief marketing officer and chief brand officer.
He originally joined Depop in 2019, bringing experience from a seven-year spell at Google’s Creative Lab.
Josh Silverman, CEO of Depop’s parent company Etsy, praised Semple’s leadership during his interim period, highlighting his dedication to the platform’s mission and community.
“Peter demonstrated not only a proven ability to lead and inspire teams, but showed his dedication to the Depop mission and its community,” Silverman said.
“He brings a strong understanding of Depop’s position in culture and resale and we couldn’t be more confident in his vision for the future.”
Semple added: “After six years at Depop, I’m excited to permanently step into the chief executive officer role and lead the business through this next phase of growth.
“My journey here, from building our brand as chief marketing officer to guiding the company as interim shief executive officer, has been a privilege. Together with our incredible team, I am committed to accelerating our mission to make fashion circular.”
The second-hand fashion marketplace became a wholly owned subsidiary of Etsy in 2021 and operates from offices in London, Manchester, and New York. Etsy is listed on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange with a market capitalisation of $6.51bn.
