TG Jones, formerly known as WHSmith, is involved in a legal battle over unsold disposable vapes following a government ban on single use e-cigarettes.

The newsagent retailer is embroiled in a court battle regarding its contract with NPB Brands after it returned boxes of unsold disposable vapes after the ban, The Telegraph reported.

The businesses are in a disagreement over the terms of their contract, with a court hearing due to take place next week.

The government banned stores from being able to sell single-use vapes in June online and in-stores, with retailers now only able to sell reusable vapes.

A TG Jones spokesman said: “As a matter of policy we would never comment on a commercial dispute between ourselves and a supplier.” NPB Brands did not comment on the matter.

The legal battle follows WHSmith’s takeover by Modella Capital in March, leading WHSmith to disappear from British high streets.

The £76m deal, which did not include the retailer’s branding, saw WHSmith’s 480 stores across high streets, shopping centres and retail parks rebranded to TGJones, and the division’s managing director Sean Toal to step in as chief executive.
