Aldi is launching a clothing donation scheme, enabling its shoppers to donate their pre-loved clothing and textiles at stores across the country.

In partnership with The Salvation Army, the supermarket is accepting clothes and textile donations for the first time through its InPost lockers.

The scheme will be available at more than 500 stores nationwide from 22 September.

To use the service, shoppers need to pack their items and then place them into a locker, using the returns portal on the Aldi website.

The items will be distributed to The Salvation Army to be resold or repurposed, helping to raise funds for the charity’s work across the country.

The announcement comes as the German discounter recently launched a two-year partnership with The Salvation Army to support the charity’s work in the community.

Aldi national sustainability director Luke Emery said: “This is a great and innovative way to expand our partnership with both InPost lockers and The Salvation Army, and will allow shoppers to donate clothing at our stores for the first time.

“At Aldi, we’re all about providing convenience and efficiency and this new service means customers can recycle clothes with no extra hassle.

“It’s quick and easy to drop-off while you shop and will help make a difference to those that The Salvation Army supports.”

InPost UK CEO Neil Kuschel added: “This partnership with Aldi and The Salvation Army makes donating clothes to those in need easier than ever.

“InPost lockers never sleep, meaning consumers will be able to make safe and secure donations to The Salvation Army 24/7. Thanks to this new delivery service and easy-to-use QR code, giving back is now as simple as sending a parcel.”

In August, Aldi revealed that it was granting its charity partner Teenage Cancer Trust access to £350,000 of its apprenticeship levy.

The funding is set to help staff at the organisation’s head office develop further within their current positions.
