Online marketplace Amazon has unveiled an above inflation pay rise for its frontline operations workers.
The retailer’s minimum starting pay will increase 5.9% to £14.30 per hour, or by 5.5% an hour, dependant on location.
Annual salaries for frontline employees will start at a minimum of £29,744 p/a, according to the business. Pay will rise to £31,824 in some locations.
The change is set to take affect from 28 September.
Amazon noted that the move meant its minimum starting pay had risen by 80p per hour in the past year and by 43% since 2022.
Amazon UK country manager John Boumphrey said: “Our UK frontline employees are essential to our success, which is why we’re proud to increase our minimum starting wage to £29,744 a year.
“Beyond this competitive wage, we offer industry-leading benefits from day one and meaningful career development opportunities for all our employees.”
In February, Amazon unveiled plans to create more than 1,000 new apprenticeships across the UK this year, as it sought to further expand its reach.
The company is offering a wide range of opportunities across the country throughout its businesses, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Prime Video, and Amazon Devices and Services.
