Deliveroo has named its new CEO, following the announcement of Will Shu’s departure last month.

Miki Kuusi is set to take over as chief executive at the food delivery giant after its acquisition by DoorDash was completed yesterday.

Kuusi serves as head of international for DoorDash, and is also co-founder and CEO of tech company Wolt, which was acquired by DoorDash in 2022.

In an open letter published earlier this week, DoorDash co-founder and CEO Tony Xu insisted the move marked “the beginning of a new chapter, not the end of an old one”.

He noted that “the Deliveroo app and products you know and love aren’t going anywhere”.

The executive added: “By combining DoorDash’s global scale and technology, we have the opportunity to serve more people, in more places, with greater impact.”

Kuusi is set to relocate to London within the “coming months” for the new role.

He said: “Having known Will and others from the Deliveroo team for many years, I’ve always admired what they have built: a strong brand, a great product, and world-class operations.

“I want to thank Wil in particular for everything he has done for Deliveroo and the industry as a whole.

“It’s remarkable what this team has built and accomplished. I couldn’t be more excited to learn from each other as we take our shared mission to the next level.”

Shu, who co-founded Deliveroo in 2013, recently revealed that he would be stepping down from the business, once the brand’s sale to DoorDash was completed.

The delivery giant agreed to the £2.9bn takeover by DoorDash in May, after receiving an offer worth 180p-a-share at the start of April.
