The managing director of luxury London department store Liberty, Sarah Coonan has left her role after an extended 15-year spell with the firm.
She will officially leave the high-end retailer on 31 January 2026, having held a range of senior positions since joining in 2010, including head of buying for beauty, home and ‘little Liberty’, as well as buying director.
“After 15 years at Liberty, it’s been an enormous privilege to be part of such an extraordinary establishment. Liberty’s spirit of creativity and independence is truly unique – and it’s been an honour to build and lead a team so dedicated to that vision,” said Coonan.
“I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together and feel confident that Liberty is in a strong position for the future.”
Promoted to her current role in 2022, Coonan rose sharply through the ranks at Liberty, joining first as an assistant buyer from rival store Harrods in October 2010, before being made beauty buyer in 2012.
Liberty chief executive Adil Mehboob-Khan added: “Sarah leaves a legacy of success – we enjoyed a decade of retail growth thanks to her contributions at retail and company level.
“She has been a force in continuing to drive Liberty as one of London’s most distinctive and design-led retail destinations. Sarah has built a strong organisation, has embodied the Liberty spirit and culture, and has been a great coach and friend to many. With sincere fondness, respect and gratitude, I wish Sarah all the best for her future.”
