Lidl GB will open five new stores in a single day, a move that will “reinforce” its position as the UK’s “fastest growing” bricks-and-mortar food retailer.
The new stores are set to open on 19 February and are located in Caldy Valley Road in Chester, Oxford Road in Calne, Yaxham Road in Dereham, Purbrook Way in Havant and Stamford Hill in London.
According to the supermarket chain, the new store openings will create up to 160 new jobs.
Commenting on the new store openings at the start of the year, Lidl chief real estate officer Richard Taylor said: “We’re starting the new year as we mean to go on, with a major investment that reinforces our commitment to delivering the best experience for customers and creating a positive impact for the communities we serve.
“With this push, we’re set on winning more shoppers across the nation and claiming an even bigger share of the market.”
The new shops will be part of Lidl’s ‘Feed it Back’ surplus food donation scheme, which it set up in collaboration with B Corp Neighbourly. The programme has handed out 18.5 million meals to 6.8 million people across Great Britain in the past year.
