Tesco has outlined its store growth ambitions for 2026, including openings in five former Amazon Fresh sites.

The supermarket said that it was “on track” to launch more than 70 Express stores before March 2027, after opening 60 new Express stores last year.

Tesco said that its growth had been boosted by the acquisition of five former Amazon Fresh stores in London.

Former Amazon Fresh sites in Kensington High Street, Hounslow, Moorgate, Aldgate East and Wembley are set to reopen as Tesco Express stores before the summer, the grocery giant reported.

New Tesco Express stores are also planned for a range of areas and local communities in 2026, including Bickington, Devon; Pontrhydyrun, Torfaen; Strabane, County Tyrone; and Wallyford, East Lothian.

Additionally, Tesco is expanding its large store estate.

Following its openings of new superstores in Ripon in November and Harrogate in December, two further large stores are set to launch in Pitlochry and Heartlands, Scotland in 2026.

Tesco group property director Nick Johnson said: “As one of the UK’s leading retailers, we support jobs and local economies up and down the UK, and as we grow our store network we’re delighted to have the opportunity to serve even more people, in even more communities.

“We are hugely excited about the year ahead and looking forward to meeting our customers where they are with great quality, exceptional value and brilliant customer service.”
