Specsavers has rolled out its recycling initiative to all UK stores, expanding the scheme to a further 300 locations.
The optician said every UK branch will now offer customers a place to recycle unwanted glasses, cases and contact lens packaging.
The initiative, first launched in 2022, is part of the retailer’s wider sustainability push, focusing on reducing landfill waste and keeping materials in circulation.
The programme is run in partnership with recycling and waste management business MyGroup, which processes hard-to-recycle plastics that might otherwise go to landfill. The materials are then turned into products including joinery boards and furniture.
Specsavers, which allows customers to recycle products whether they were originally bought from Specsavers or another retailer, said 72 tonnes of material were recycled through the scheme in 2025 from 659 stores and labs, up by almost five tonnes on the previous year.
“At Specsavers we believe that sustainability must show up in our everyday operations,” said Specsavers UK and Ireland head of sustainability Helen Curran.
“Investing in customer recycling in every one of our UK stores is exactly that: a practical, tangible step that keeps valuable materials in circulation and makes it genuinely easy for our customers to be part of the solution. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of the increased roll out in the years ahead.’
