Cardzone is set to close its Card Centre shop in Newport as it continues to reduce its high street estate.
The Commercial Street branch has launched a closing-down sale offering 20 per cent off all remaining stock, although its final day of trading has yet to be confirmed.
Cardzone acquired Card Centre in 2014 as part of a deal involving 14 stores across Wales, before later expanding the brand into Northern Ireland.
It has closed several branches since 2023, including shops in Beeston, Blackpool, Chesterfield, King’s Lynn, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Reigate, Scunthorpe and Stroud.
Cardzone’s long-standing store at Didcot’s Orchard Centre also ceased trading in January following an “everything must go” sale offering discounts of up to 50 per cent.
Cardzone has previously warned that its reliance on leased stores presents a risk to the business, particularly because most of its branches operate under agreements lasting fewer than five years.
It said in its latest accounts that there was no guarantee lease-renewal negotiations would be successful. Its most recent financial statements, covering the year to 28 June 2025, were filed at Companies House in March.
Despite the recent closures, Cardzone’s website says the family-owned business continues to operate more than 150 shops across the UK.
Its wider portfolio includes Cardzone, Card Centre, Hallmark, Mooch, Paper Kisses and Yankee Candle stores.
The business was established by managing director Paul Taylor in 2005 and has expanded through a series of acquisitions, including Hallmark’s outlet operation in 2016 and Yankee Candle’s outlet business in 2020.
