Swarovski has appointed its first chief executive outside of the Swarovski family as it transitions from a family managed business to a family owned company.

The jewellery retailer has hired the former chief executive of Kantar, Alexis Nasard for the role.

He has also previously held a chief executive position footwear specialist Bata Group and was also president of western Europe and global chief marketing officer at Heineken.

More recently, he has been working as a senior business advisor at McKinsey & Company. He is also a former member of the board of advisors of luxury brand Salvatore Ferragamo.

“With the appointment of Swarovski’s first appointment of an external CEO, we are taking an important further step in establishing a sustainable governance model,” Swarovski chair Luisa Delgada said.

“With Alexis Nasard as the new CEO, we are very pleased to have been able to select a highly experienced and transformational leadership personality who is capable of leading Swarovski in the affirmation of its iconic luxury heritage and through its business transformation.”

Due to join the business in July, Nasard will succeed Michele Molon who has been leading the business on an interim basis and will take a new role of chief commercial officer.
