DFS hires ex-Matalan exec as new chairman

// DFS has appointed ex-Matalan and Asda exec Steve Johnson as its new chair
// Current chair Ian Durant is set to retire following the retailer’s AGM in November

DFS has hired ex-Asda and Matalan exec Steve Johnson as its new chair as current incumbent Ian Durant prepares to step down following the furniture retailer‘s AGM on 4 November.

Johnson joined the DFS board back in December 2018 and is currently the chair of the remuneration committee.

He was selected for the role after an externally-led recruitment process, with his appointment subject to his re-election as chair of the group’s remuneration committee by shareholders at the AGM.

DFS chief executive Tim Stacey said: “I am delighted by the board’s announcement of Steve’s appointment as chair. His detailed knowledge of our group and wider retail experience will continue to be invaluable as we move forward with our strategy to lead furniture retailing in the digital age.
