Amazon will start charging Prime members for same-day delivery on some orders from next month.

The online giant has become the latest retailer to up its prices, informing customers eligible for same-day delivery that it will now charge members an extra £1.99 for orders under £20, a perk that used to be included in the monthly subscription price.

Thousands of Prime shoppers received the email which outlines the new charge for the retailer’s same-day service, which sees items delivered as long as they are ordered by 1 pm.

Any customer who spends less than £20 will now be charged for the service, despite paying £8.99 a month for Prime delivery.

Amazon said in its email: “Same-day delivery can be selected at checkout, but there will be a fee of £1.99 per delivery for orders under £20.

“The fee for customers who are not Prime members will remain £5.99.”

The change will apply from September 18, 2023 while Prime members who spend over £20 will continue to get free same-day delivery if it’s available on their order.

Following the news, many Prime members took to social media to share their grievances.

One user said on Facebook: “There’s not much point in being a Prime member soon.”

Another added: “It’s getting to the point where unless you use next-day delivery a lot or video it’s not that beneficial.”

However another Twitter user disagreed, and posted: “Honestly I still think it’s an absolute bargain.

“I’m happy with the £1.99 charge if I want something under £20 on the same day.”

They put it down to having to pay other couriers to deliver the parcels. I live in a block of flats and I regularly have to either go downstairs to collect them or find that they have gone missing

Well. You pay for prime. That’s 7.99 a month. OK but do you get anything else for that. No. Its the free thing they said it would not change. Now oh we are gonna charge. OK. Then don’t pay 7.99 a month for the privilege. Its not free you pay for prime.

£1.99 isn’t particularly expensive for Same Day delivery however that doesn’t factor in that the customer will already be paying £95 per year for a prime subscription. So depending on what services you use, number of orders per year etc etc it could work out quite expensive.

I’ve not ordered anything off of Amazon for years and point blank refuse to get any subscription deal from them at all.

The only time I spend any money with them whatsoever is on my Kindle app for the occasional ebook.

I cant fault Amazon at all, everything comes and it ends up in my house not like other delivery companies who deliver parcels elsewhere show you a pic and you send a pic back showing its not even made it to the proper address. They then tell you to contact the seller. Yet its them who put it elsewhere. Never had any problems like that with Amazon. £1.99 is still a good price for next day. Im always over £20 so really not that worried.

Prime video is totally rubbish, prime delivery is just acceptable, goods left leaning against Wheely bins when there’s a “postbox” and a fridge to place parcels in. Utter morons some delivery couriers. As far as Evri being used, that company should be forced to cease trading by the government based on its diabolical customer service.

Unfortunately I have had very bad deliveries, same day or not. The company that is used by Amazon is TOTALLY unreliable. They don’t follow instructions and ALWAYS resort to the easiest option. Consequently I have cancelled ALL orders on select and save… and use other providers who are more reliable and caring.

I’d rather cancel my subscription all together aswell.
I think they are thieves and robbers anyway.
Billions and Billions yet they want to charge you more.
Comments saying I don’t mind paying it I don’t believe to be genuine that’s my opinion. Who in the world says I don’t mind paying more unless you’re filthy rich and doesn’t struggle. I’d say no-one. Jeff Bazos a billionaire paying people from Asia and India peanuts and the security you have to go through now is a joke the customer service team don’t speak English well at all then what should be a 10 minute call turns into hours and the stress is unbelievable.
Definitely not worth extra money. Thieves simple just when they and governments globally are plunging us into poverty and good ole Jeff gets into his Bentley and drives off into the sunset. Joke.
