Four major retailers have become the first to sign up to a shopping park expansion in Warwickshire that is operated by real estate developer Hammerson.

Homeware retailer DFS has signed a 10-year lease on a 15,000sq ft property at the Elliott‘s Field Shopping Park extension.

Following suit with similar 10-year leases are Oak Furniture Land and Sofology with 10,000sq ft spaces, and carpet retailer Tapi with a 8000sq ft lease.

The £20 million extension will see the four homeware retailers open their doors before Christmas this year.

“We know that people who live in Rugby currently make most of their homeware purchases outside the borough,” Hammerson development manager Thomas Cochrane said.

“At Elliott‘s Field, we are helping drive growth in Rugby by addressing this gap in the market and responding to customer demand for greater choice.

“These popular and successful brands will enable Rugby residents to make some of their big purchases for the home without travelling so far.

“We are seeing significant interest in the remaining units, which is a reflection not only of the strength of the first phase and the growth of Rugby, but also tangible occupier confidence and the resilience of the market in the face of Brexit.”
