Poundland in legal battle over Toblerone copy

Poundland has become embroiled in a legal battle with chocolate maker Toblerone as it attempts to launch its own “Twin Peaks” chocolate bars.

The budget retailer is attempting to launch a similar version of the iconic triangular chocolate bar, which is one of its best sellers.

This marks the latest in Poundland‘s own-brand ranges as it attempts to tackle rising inflation on its most popular items.

Ahead of Christmas last year Toblerone reduced the weight of its bars, extending the space between the triangle chunks. The decision, made to maintain its price in the UK, was met with widespread controversy.

In response, Poundland created Twin Peaks bars which are 30g heavier than their Swiss-made counterpart while selling for the same price.

The launch of the bars was set for the beginning of this month, but following a legal challenge from Toblerone it has been delayed indefinitely.

Both companies reportedly held talks to solve the dispute last week and a spokesperson from Poundland told The Guardian: “Twin Peaks is still in development.”
