Sainsbury’s has issued an urgent product recall after revealing some of its own brand beetroot could have shards of glass inside.

The supermarket’s own brand 340g jars of beetroot with a best before date of August 2019 is reportedly “unsafe to eat”.

After finding pieces of glass in one batch of the item, Sainsbury’s is taking “precautionary” measures and calling for any customers who have purchased the item, with a batch code of L318N 1737, to return it to their local store.

“No other products or batch codes are affected by this issue, and we apologise for the inconvenience this has caused,” Sainsbury’s stated.

“As a precautionary measure, we are asking all customers who have bought this product with the above batch code, not to consume it and to return it to their nearest Sainsbury’s store where they will receive a full refund.”
