Hardy Amies has announced it has gone into administration for the second time in just over a decade.

The Savile Row retailer – best known for being a dressmaker for the Queen – reported that it had called in administrators who are seeking buyers for its UK operation.

A statement from accountancy firm Menzies said Hardy Amies had been at a loss for a while, but should continue as a business due to its history.

“Despite trading at a loss in the UK for some time, the Hardy Amies’ brand has a unique heritage, which is much-revered in the world of haute couture, and it very much deserves to live on,” Menzies’ business recovery partner Freddy Khalastchi told the BBC.

He added: “We are looking forward to talking with potential buyers in the coming days and weeks to find a way to make this happen.”
