The business said that only do shoppers benefit from being a member, but their support also allows it to invest funds into community projects and local causes.
This included installing over 300 lifesaving defibrillators outside food stores and funeral homes, launching a ground-breaking project with FareShare Midlands to redistribute food and create over one million meals a year for people in need, and £180,000 being shared between 115 charities and good causes via its Community Dividend Fund.
“Throughout the year, we give a share of our profits not only to our members, but to local community groups too. It’s because of them that we’re able to help,” Central England Co-op chief executive Debbie Robinson said.
“It’s why membership makes a real difference and it’s thanks to them that we are able to give back to our communities in the way we do.”
Central England Co-op is independent from the larger Co-op Group, and trades from over 400 grocery, funeral, travel and floral outlets across 16 counties.
