A robbery during the commute this morning at the Bentall shopping centre in Kingston saw jewellery store Fraser Hart raided.

At nine o‘ clock this morning four men who arrived on motorbikes proceeded to smash through the shop window with sledge hammers leaving broken glass on the floor outside. Police have cordoned off the area for further investigation.

Shoppers were prevented from entering the shopping centre until midday following the break in at the store just after rush hour.

Local news provider for Kingston and surrounding areas, the Surrey Comet, has tweeted that since the robbery this morning a man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

“One arrest after robbers raid jewellery store,” was the latest update on its Twitter page at the time of publication.

A police flying squad from Barnes is taking over the investigation into the goods that were stolen from the jewellers‘.

A press statement was issued by the shopping centre to say that no one was injured and the four men were unarmed.

“At 09.08am on Monday 25th of June four men on motorbikes entered The Bentall Centre via the Fife Road entrance and a robbery took place at Fraser Hart,” said a spokesman.

“The men were not armed and no one was hurt during the incident.

“The police were called and are now investigating the matter, to which they have our full co-operation.

“The Bentall Centre reopened at 10.55am, however, the crime scene is still taped off.”
