Online retailer Littlewoods.com is to broadcast a live interactive TV show via Facebook in what it claims is a retail first.

As part of its ongoing multimedia strategy, the e-tailer is airing the one hour ‘Littlewoods Live‘ show on Wednesday June 13th 2012 at 9pm, hosted by celebrity designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.

Showcasing his new AW12 collection, the homewares expert will discuss upcoming trends during the inaugural programme, interacting with viewers via live phone-ins, instant messaging and offering spot prizes.

Working in conjunction with social media specialists dot.talent, the show will be available via Facebook and mobile and will include four ad breaks featuring electrical and homewares products.

Danny Spronz, founder and CEO of dot.talent, explained the reasoning behind the upcoming premier.

“We are delighted to be working closely with Littlewoods.com on this pioneering project, offering audiences an exciting opportunity to engage with the brand,” he said.

“This entertaining format allows highly effective measurement and enhanced interaction and demonstrates Littlewoods.com‘s innovative approach to communicating directly with its audience through social media.”

Shop Direct Group, which owns Littlewoods.com as well as Very.co.uk and isme.com, will be hoping this latest move connects well with its increasingly tech-savvy audience.

Although phone-ins from customers have dropped over the last six months by 1.65 million year-on-year, the number of shoppers making contact via social media channels rocketed 1,400 per cent.

Gary Kibble, Brand Director for Littlewoods.com, welcomed the latest partnership with brand ambassador Llewelyn-Bowen, adding: “This is a UK retail first and is very much in line with our brand strategy to engage our customers by creating innovative social media content that brings our products vividly to life.

“Littlewoods.com already has a community of more than 113,000 fans on Facebook. We hope that this will become a way for us to connect regularly with as wide an audience as possible, enabling both existing and new customers to browse and shop with us via a new and exciting platform.”
