Burberry has been named the industry leader in sustainability by the 2016 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).

The luxury fashion retailer has been named the leading company in “consumer durables and apparel sector” and is the second consecutive year to be included in the index.

It achieved the best scores in areas such as Environmental Reporting, Customer Relationship Management and Stakeholder Engagement.

The index serves as a benchmark in the industry for company‘s who pride themselves in integrating sustainability into their business. It allows investors to analyse the many economic, environmental and social factors relevant to companies.

This follows last week‘s announcement that Burberry had been voted top multi-channel retailer, due to the strength of its mobile commerce platform by The Mobile Retail Report.

Despite building titles slump in China‘s market lead to a 10 per cent drop in profits in the year up to March 30 this year. It also plans to cut £100 million from its budget to aid its bottom line.
