Plans to redevelop and expand Telford Shopping Centre – one of the busiest regional shopping centres in the UK – has been approved by the local council.

Developer Sovereign Centros‘ £200 investment includes a two storey extension to the existing shopping centre, providing 70,000 sq ft of new fashion retail space.

The plans also include the construction of a new bus station and new entrance from Northfield St.

The development will allow existing tenants to relocate to bigger stores while attracting new retailers.

The new stores will be ready for occupation in summer 2018.

Telford Shopping Centre currently offers one million sq ft of space. Major tenants include House of Fraser, Debenhams, Marks & Spencer and Primark, as well as H&M, Zara, New Look, Topshop/Topman, Next, Monsoon, River Island and JD Sports.

It is the largest shopping in the county of Shropshire and attracts around 15 million visitors per annum.
