Waitrose is set to recruit a further 5000 temporary employees ahead of this Christmas, to aid the grocer in what it expects to be a busy festive period.

Half of these temporary employees are expected to be previous employees, returning from university over the Christmas holidays, but 2500 new positions are still up for grabs at the luxury food retailer.

“We are committed to offering the best customer service during the festive season so we are happy to welcome people who wish to work in our fast-paced and friendly business,” Waitrose personnel director Helen Hyde said.

“As we approach our busiest time of the year the creation of thousands of varied seasonal roles will help enable us to provide our famous high-quality service for busy Christmas shoppers.”
