Mothercare appoints new finance boss

Mothercare has named Glyn Hughes as its new chief finance officer.

He will replace Richard Smothers, who announced his resignation in May but said he would remain in the role until a replacement was found.

Hughes is currently the retailer’s interim finance director and will move into his new role on December 1. Smothers will also leave Mothercare on that day.

Hughes’ promotion also means he will become executive director, also effective from December 1.

Before joining Mothercare, he spent 10 years in Asia where he held both chief executive and chief finance officer responsibilities in the Dairy Farm Group.

Prior to that, he was with Kingfisher, Tesco and KPMG.

“Glyn‘s extensive international retail knowledge and finance experience will be a huge support to the team and me as our business goes through the next phase of its transition,” Mothercare chief executive Mark Newton-Jones said.
