Amazon is poised to launch its own delivery service, aiming to undercut industry leaders like UPS and FedEx and increase control of its own logistics.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the online retail giant will launch “Ship with Amazon” (SWA), which will handle delivery for other businesses that sell on Amazon’s Marketplace.

It is understood Amazon will use fill free space in trucks performing its own deliveries with third-party orders, adding little extra cost to the journey.

The initiative is set to be rolled out in Los Angeles for a trial period, with a view to extending it across its wider network in the near future.

This move would give Amazon near full control over its orders, enabling faster and more efficient deliveries across its network.
