Dixons Carphone poaches Halfords’ finance boss for similar role

Dixons Carphone has hired Halfords chief finance officer Jonny Mason to be its new group finance director.

While his role with the electronics retail giant is yet to be confirmed, Mason has been in his role at Halfords since 2015 and was also interim chief executive of the cycling and car parts retailer from September last year to January.

His previous roles include chief financial officer of Scandi Standard, chief financial officer of Odeon and UCI Cinemas and finance director of Sainsbury’s.

His appointment comes two months after Dixons Carphone appointed Alex Baldock to replace Sebastian James as its new group chief executive.

Baldock is the former chief executive of Shop Direct and James has moved on to become senior vice president, president and managing director of Boots.

“The board and I are very pleased to welcome Jonny Mason to the group,” Dixons Carphone chairman Ian Livingstone said.

“Together with Alex Baldock, we now have a great new team to lead Dixons Carphone.”

Baldock added: “I am delighted to have Jonny by my side. He has an outstanding track record and brings the experience and qualities we need to take Dixons Carphone into the next phase of its transformation.”
