Amazon has made its first venture into South Korea with ambitious plans to create the world’s checkout-free department store.

A subsidiary of the online retail giant Amazon Web Service has penned a deal with Hyundai Department stores to create a futuristic department store which will utilise drones and cashierless technology.

The new store, which is a further sign of the company’s growing desire to break into the physical retail market, is set for completion in 2020.

It will reportedly deliver items to customers outside the building using drones, use artificial intelligence to guide visitors and utilise Amazon Go’s “Just Walk Out” technology, which is already in operation in America.

The pair also plan to merge their technological capabilities to create a comprehensive system to analyse purchasing patterns and set up a cloud based membership platform based on it.
