AO World founder John Roberts is set to reassume the role of chief executive after it was announced that Steve Caunce has stepped down after two years in the position.
The online electricals retailer said Caunce would remain involved as a part-time adviser to the board and Roberts.
AO World said Caunce decided to step down with immediate effect and “rebalance his lifestyle” after a period of “intense activity” at the business.
He had been appointed chief executive two years ago, taking over the reins from Roberts at the time.
Under Caunce, AO World has expanded European operations, broadened product categories and acquired Mobile Phones Direct.
“Steve has played a vital part in AO’s development and in the last two years has created the foundations for our future success,” Roberts said.
“I look forward to continuing to work with him, as I have over the last 13 years.
“I am fully committed to the business and the execution of our focused strategy and can’t wait to get stuck in again as CEO.”
