John Lewis weekly sales up 3.8%

John Lewis has reported a sales increase of 3.8 per cent over the last week, where fashion was the overall best performer.

Sales in fashion increased by 7.6 per cent year on year in the period to June 15, while women’s accessories advanced by 11.3 per cent.

The department store chain’s home department sales saw an uptick of four per cent, and benefited from the Father’s Day gift range offers which advanced overall sales by 17.1 per cent.

Meanwhile, John Lewis electronics and home technology were down 1. 3 per cent, despite sales of large electrical products increasing eight per cent.

Furthermore, Waitrose’s weekly sales were down 2.6 per cent.

John Lewis Partnership saw a sales slowdown of 0. 3 per cent to £218.7 million.
