Naked Wines has said it will raise £225,220 for South African winemakers by introducing an exclusive collection.

The deal is part of its $5 million (£4.1 million) Covid Support Fund.

The online wine retailer is set to launch an online crowdfunding event on Thursday to raise money for South African winemakers impacted by Covid-19 restrictions.

Naked Wines said the South African wine industry has been heavily affected by the total ban on sale of domestic alcohol drinks.

The retailer estimated that the wine industry alone has already suffered direct losses of £142 million already.

In response, it has put together 2000 cases of wine to raise funds for six South African winemakers.

The pre-orders from Naked Wines customers will allow the six winemakers to reinvest directly in next year’s wine production, rather than spend time and money selling the unsold wine.

Naked Wines customers will save 26 per cent on 12 bottles.

To date, over 11,000 Naked Wines customers in the UK have raised almost £1 million to help 31 winemakers impacted by Covid-19 globally.
