Sainsbury’s Bank has warned its credit card customers to check their statements to find out whether they may have been charged late payment fees by mistake.

Many customers with the bank were incorrectly charged £12 fees for late payments on January 3.

These customers should get refunds automatically, MoneySavingExpert reported.

Sainsbury’s credit card customers have been warned that they should check their statements anyway and make sure they get refunds they are eligible for.

One customer of the bank said they had been told by the bank that refunds would only be given to those who told the bank they had been overcharged.

People with Sainsbury’s Bank credit cards can check their statements by using online banking or by using the bank’s credit card app.

A Sainsbury’s Bank spokesperson said, “We are investigating a small number of customers who have been charged late payment fees incorrectly. We’re sorry for the inconvenience this may cause and are automatically refunding customers to put this right.”
