Asos has hired Tim Phipps as its new sportswear and outdoor director as he expects to play a key role in the online retailer’s commercial leadership team.

Phipps will be involved in delivering a critical part of the retailer’s growth strategy by helping to evolve the sportswear and outdoor category for both own and third-party brands, Drapers reported.

He has been working with Nike for the last nine years, most recently as senior business director for NBHD and SNKRS.

Prior to joining the sportswear giant, he was head of global footwear at Fred Perry and was UK fashion sales manager at Reebok.

Last month, Asos removed the ‘Responsbile Edit’ section of its website, which brought together all clothing it deemed sustainable, ahead of an investigation into potential ‘greenwashing’ by the brand.

The retailer took the items off its website just a few weeks before scrutiny was due by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

Asos launched its Responsible Edit range in June 2019, heralded as a one-stop shop for environmentally-conscious fashions, featuring 3,700 items from a range of brands.
