Ikea trials ‘affordable and accessible’ collection service from Tesco carparks

// Ikea is partnering up with Tesco in a test-and-trial for its new ‘Collect Near You’ points, located within the supermarket’s carparks
// A gradual rollout will see six further pilot sites go live in Doncaster, Cambridge, Dereham, Bolton, Stockport, and Liverpool

Ikea is collaborating with Tesco in a new test-and-trial to expand on its existing Collect Near You offering, providing customers with more ”convenient and affordable” collection services across the UK.

The new partnership has been designed to offer customers the option of collecting an order from the Swedish furniture giant in a designated area within their local Tesco carpark – for free with orders over £200, or £10 for all other orders.

In a first for the UK, the Collect Near You service will launch in Blackburn on October 10th, followed by a gradual rollout of six further pilot sites in Doncaster, Cambridge, Dereham, Bolton, Stockport, and Liverpool later this year.

When placing an order online, customers will go through the usual checkout option and select the Collect Near You service for their local Tesco and following Ikea click and collect signage within the Tesco carparks, customers will arrive at a designated pick-up point at their chosen date and time, and meet with a delivery driver and vehicle who will hand their order over to them.

The business is currently trialling the concept in Denmark and Portugal and Ikea said its pilot with Tesco will run for an initial period of six months.

Ikea UK & Ireland Fulfilment and Multichannel Network Manager Julie Carr said: “We are proud to be collaborating with Tesco to test-and-trial more convenient, accessible, and affordable collection services in the UK across a number of key locations.

“This collaboration recognises that in an ever-changing retail environment, there is an opportunity to work together to bring IKEA closer to the many people.”
