// Asda to ration number of boxes of eggs that customers can purchase
// Shoppers will be limited to buying two boxes of any number of eggs due to supply chain issues

Asda has begun to ration the number of boxes of eggs that customers can purchase following supply chain issues.

The grocer said shoppers will be limited to buying two boxes of any number of eggs until further notice.

The rationing comes after UK poultry farmers face a record outbreak of avian flu which is leading to millions of birds being culled.

The outbreak has begun to affect the supply of eggs, leading to concerns of a shortage of Christmas turkeys.

Fellow grocer Sainsbury’s said it was “experiencing some supply challenges with eggs” but is not limiting how many boxes people can buy. It is sourcing eggs from Italy to alleviate the shortage.

Asda said some UK farmers are cutting back or halting egg production this year due to rising costs – in addition to avian flu.

This is simply not true; avian flu has had a minor knock on its down to the supermarkets not wishing to pay the going rate and seeing avian flu as a quick cope out. I have over 10,000 eggs waiting to go to Tesco but have not been paid in 3 months and the price they are now offering is less then what it cost me to feed the animals.
