The Body Shop global retail director Linda Campbell has stepped down from the health and beauty retailer.

She is understood to have left the ethical beauty specialist at the end of November despite having been promoted in January, Retail Week reported.

Campbell joined The Body Shop in 2014 as retail director and was later promoted to UK and Ireland managing director in 2017.

At the beginning of the year, she was promoted to global retail director and was succeeded by former Estée Lauder’s US retail boss Maddie Smith.

Prior to that, she spent four years at Planet Organic as its commercial director and held multiple roles during an eight year stint at Space NK.

The Body Shop is vying to improve its performance as sales have plummetted since the onset of the pandemic.

In its last quarter, The Body Shop owner Natura said that the UK business “continued to post challenging results amid channel decline in the At Home segment and slower franchise recovery”.

Body Shop margins fell over the period and its management is now implementing a series of measures that includes strict cost containment, stimulating demand from head franchisees by taking advantage of opportunities to manage inventory levels, and continued store footprint optimisation.

It is also rolling out its new Workshop store format, which Natura said is experiencing a 15 percentage point sales uplift.
