The Body Shop hires new UK boss

The Body Shop has hired Estée Lauder’s US retail boss Maddie Smith to lead its UK operation as it promotes current UK boss Linda Campbell to global retail director.

Smith is currently retail vice-president for North America for Estée Lauder, which also owns brands including Clinique, Bobbi Brown and Mac, and she has more than 25 years experience in beauty retail, including positions at L’Occitane, Superdrug owner AS Watson and Boots.

Campbell, who has run The Body Shop in the UK and Ireland for five years, will join the board in her position of global retail director, where she will be responsible for leading the international rollout of the retailer’s Activist Workshop store format, according to Retail Week. This will include introducing refill stations across its store network.

Both Smith and Campbell will report to The Body Shop chief executive David Boynton.

He said: “These exciting roles will ensure we carry on growing our company in a post-pandemic world and enable our retail channels to remain a place where customers can enjoy a unique experience, with excellent customer service, not only in the UK and Ireland but across the world.”
