Aldi has removed all purchasing restrictions on fresh produce, including limits on tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers.

The grocer said it planned to lift limits on the numbers of fruits and vegetables customers can purchase, starting on Monday.

Aldi had imposed customer purchase limits on certain fruits and vegetables weeks ago, alongside several other major supermarket chains.

Aldi, Tesco, Asda and Morrisons were among the supermarkets to impose the limits, blaming bad weather abroad for the low supplies of certain fresh veg.

On February 22, Aldi said it was limiting purchases of peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes to three units per person to ensure that as many customers as possible can buy what they need.

Fellow German discounter Lidl also said it would drop all its customer limits imposed on certain fresh fruit and vegetables today.

The grocer is understood to be removing its limit of three per customer on cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes as supply issues begin to ease.

On Thursday, Asda said it had dropped its restrictions on broccoli, cucumbers, cauliflower, lettuce, salad bags and raspberries but has left the limits on tomatoes and peppers in place.

Morrisons followed suit in removing the customer limits on cucumbers but kept restrictions of two per customers on tomatoes, lettuce and peppers in place.
