Boohoo has appointed former chairman of New Look and Matalan chief executive Alistair McGeorge as a non-executive director.

He has succeeded Brian Small as the group’s deputy chairman and will act as interim chair of the audit committee until the search for an additional non-executive director is complete.

McGeorge was chief executive of Liverpool-headquartered Matalan for almost four years from the end of 2006 and chairman of New Look for three years from May 2011.

He is currently chairman of Burnley-headquartered business The Original Factory Shop.

Boohoo also revealed that Neil Catto has stepped down as an executive director after almost 12 years, the majority of which was spent as chief financial officer.

Boohoo Group executive chairman Mahmud Kamani said: “Alistair has extensive board-level experience with some great retail brands. We look forward to working with him and are confident that he will help us deliver our ambition to be the global fashion leader.”

Kamani added: “Neil has been with the group for 12 years and is held in the highest regard for his substantial contribution. He has been instrumental in building the group from a one-brand-business and into a multi-brand platform. I, on behalf of the wider board, management team and group, wish Neil and Brian the very best for the future.””
